DAY 6 – MADRID > TOLEDO > MADRID
In a world where religion continues to act as a divisive force, Toledo is a refreshing throwback. Dramatically sited atop a gorge overlooking the Río Tajo, it was known as the ‘city of three cultures’ in the Middle Ages, a place where – legend has it – Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities peacefully coexisted. Rediscovering the vestiges of this unique cultural synthesis remains modern Toledo’s most compelling attraction. Horseshoe-arched mosques, Sephardic synagogues and one of Spain’s finest Gothic cathedrals crams into its dense historical core. But the layers go much deeper. Further sleuthing will reveal Visigoth and Roman roots. Toledo’s other forte is art, particularly the haunting canvases of El Greco, the influential, impossible-to-classify painter with whom the city is synonymous.

DAY 8 – GRANADA
Located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, between the rivers Darro and Genil, Granada boasts an impressive Al-Andalus heritage, an unmistakable Moorish essence, since it was the last city to be reconquered by the Catholic Monarchs in 1492. The gastronomy, craftwork and urban planning are influenced by its glorious past. Fountains, viewpoints and “Cármenes”, houses surrounded by typical gardens of this city, create unforgettable corners in the city. It is no surprise that one of its old neighborhoods, the Albaicín, has been awarded the World Heritage designation, together with the Alhambra and Generalife. It was an important cultural centre for many centuries, under the Moors and the Christians too.

DAY 10 – SEVILLA
A city beaming with a beauty and exuberance every bit as intense as the bright Andalucían sun shining upon it, Sevilla is one of Spain’s cosmopolitan gems. Situated in the middle of the autonomous community of Andalucía, Sevilla and its surroundings comprise this quintessentially “Spanish” region. Olive groves sprawling across rolling hills unite soaring mountain ranges with the lapping waters of the Mediterranean Sea. It’s the Spain of popular imagination, the home of bullfights and flamenco, the world of fiction’s famous protagonists Don Juan and Cármen and the quaint land of white-washed houses and flower-filled patios. Admire the massive Gothic cathedral- the biggest in the world- and the totally different yet equally stunning Mudéjar-style Alcázar palace, neighbors in Sevilla’s old city. Ramble through the winding alleys of Santa Cruz, the city’s former Jewish quarter, then cross the historically important Guadalquivir River to the grittier Triana, traditional home of gypsies and flamenco.

DAY 11 – SEVILLA > CORDOBA > SEVILLA
Situated in the interior of Andalusia were past and modernity blend in together. This thousand-year-old city, which has the World Heritage designation, is a living legacy of the different cultures that settled here throughout its history. Not many places in the world can say they have been the capital of Hispania Ulterior (Further Spain) under the Roman Empire, and capital of the Umayyad Caliphate. This splendour can also be seen because of the intellectualism of this city of knowledge, where figures like Seneca, Averroes or Maimonides were born. Through a walk in the old quarter, you will discover a beautiful network of alleyways, squares and white-washed courtyards surrounding the Great Mosque-Cathedral, which reflects the importance of the city in the Middle Ages and is the symbol of the city.
